RIVA's Cutting Edge Technology To Help Intermountain Healthcare
Enhance Medication Delivery Safety
March 13, 2008, Winnipeg, MB- Primary Children's Medical Center of Salt Lake City, Utah, is the latest health care facility to buy a RIVA System (Robotic IV Automation)-a self-contained unit for filling IV syringes and bags- from Intelligent Hospital Systems (IH Systems). Owned and operated by Intermountain Healthcare, the Primary Children's Medical Center treats children with complex illness and injury from across the western states of the United States of America.
The hospitals and clinics of Intermountain Healthcare are renowned for their clinically excellent and cost-efficient care and were recently recognized for their pioneering work in using computer systems to reduce medication errors. According to Director of Pharmacy, Kevin Jones, the RIVA system is a natural fit with Primary's philosophy of care: "The Child First and Always". "Our mission is to attain the highest levels of excellence in the provision of health care for children, while providing an atmosphere of love and concern," Jones says. "Our investment in RIVA will help us attain our vision of providing outstanding pediatric care, medical education, child advocacy and research in the United States, while ensuring we retain the trust of our patients and their families," he concludes.
For Kevin McGarry, Chief Executive Officer of IH Systems, the success of RIVA lies in the system's ability to provide a broad range of technologically advanced, cost efficient solutions for health care pharmacy units. "From the very youngest, to the most senior patients, the RIVA system is providing pharmacy teams an increasingly valuable tool for ensuring goals for the safe and efficient delivery of IV admixtures are met," he says.
According to Jane Arnot, Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development for RIVA, the relationship with Primary Children's demonstrates the versatility RIVA offers for health care facilities seeking to address patient safety through automation. "Investing in advanced technology like the RIVA system is one way hospital pharmacies can access the latest, most advanced tools in their ongoing efforts to improve medication safety outcomes for patients," says Arnot.
